What to expect during your treatment
I believe in giving the best possible treatment, which is why your first appointment normally takes a little longer than most, 45 minutes- 1 hour on average. This is so I can get to know you, decide on the treatment you need and start to provide that treatment.
Every patient is treated as an individual and the type of treatment will be chosen according to the complaint presented, medical history and findings on examination. As children usually have less history, a first appointment for a child under sixteen normally lasts 40 minutes.
An indication of the type and length of treatment you’ll require will be given after your first visit. On average 6-8 sessions are to be expected but for patients with minor acute pain, one or two treatment sessions may be all that is necessary. However patients with more chronic conditions may need to consider ongoing maintenance.
Subsequent appointments generally take about 30 minutes to reassess your situation, monitor any changes and make the necessary adjustments. You will also have time to relax during the treatment, which will help the self-healing process.
The first visit
New clients are asked to arrive a few minutes before the appointed time to fill in a simple registration form (if not sent by post beforehand). In order to determine the best diagnosis and plan of treatment patients are asked to bring details of any current medication and/or supplements taken. X-ray and imaging slides or reports may be useful if available.
Clothing
For osteopathy treatment clients may be asked to undress to underwear for examination so please wear light comfortable clothing. Babies may be undressed for examination, but treatment is usually given through clothing.
